The DC2SEM2L is a control unit for traffic lights. It can manage both 24V and 230Vac traffic lights as they are driven by clean relay contacts.

It has been designed for the management of 2 situations:

• 2 traffic lights with 2 lights in a single alternate sense, which is the most classic and commonly used configuration in narrow passages where only one vehicle can pass (garages, parking lots, residences, etc.).
• 4 traffic lights combined 2 to two opposed to manage a simple crossing. In this configuration, one exit controls a road in both directions and the other exit controls the intersecting road in both directions.

The traffic light control unit can operate with two operating logics, depending on the installation requirement:

A) Operation without detection devices (TIMED)

The alternation times of the phases in which the traffic lights are lit red or green are defined by the installer through the trimmers on board the control unit. The phases are fixed cyclical times, regardless of traffic volume.

The order of entry and exit of vehicles is defined autonomously by the control unit in a cyclical way, as follows:

• PHASE 1: Traffic light 1 red / Traffic light 2 red
• PHASE 2: Traffic light 1 green / Traffic light 2 red
• PHASE 3: Traffic light 1 red / Traffic light 2 red
• PHASE 4: Traffic light 1 red / Traffic light 2 green
• PHASE 5: The cycle restarts from Phase 1

Phases in which both traffic lights are red allow vehicles to safely pass through narrow passageways, tunnels, or alleys.

B) Operation with detection devices

The alternation times of the phases in which the traffic lights are lit red or green are still defined by the installer through the trimmers on board the control unit. However, the difference in this mode is that the detection of vehicles on the corresponding entrances activates the phase changes.

The control unit is equipped with two inputs, one for each traffic light.

• PHASE 1: Traffic light 1 red / Traffic light 2 red
• PHASE 2: The first detector that detects a vehicle triggers the corresponding traffic light; for example: Traffic light 1 green / Traffic light 2 red

PHASE 3 manages three possible conditions:

• PHASE 3A: Once the vehicle has passed and no other vehicles are detected in either direction, both traffic lights turn red and the cycle restarts from Phase 1.
• PHASE 3B: If further vehicles are present on the same side and no vehicle is waiting on the opposite side, the green light will remain on for that side. Once vehicles have passed and no further detections occur, both traffic lights turn red and the cycle restarts from Phase 1.
• PHASE 3C: If vehicles are present on the same side and a waiting vehicle is detected on the opposite side, the currently green traffic light remains green for a maximum time. This time is defined by a trimmer on board to allow alternating passage.

The control unit is compatible with any type of detection device that switches a NO contact to NC or vice versa. For example, depending on the installation, detectors can include:

• Photocells
• Photolaser sensors
• Radar sensors
• Magnetic loop detectors
• Preassembled loop kits

• Runs on time or inputs
• 24 – 230 V
